THE ORIGIN OF THE BALI STRAIT (HAUNTED BEAD)

Once in Blambangan there was a Begawan named Sidi Mantra. He was a wealthy begawan and of noble character. His religious knowledge is very broad and highly respected by the surrounding community.

He had a beautiful and kind wife. From this marriage he was blessed with a son named Bead haunted. They hope that this son will inherit the knowledge and shop of his father in Balinese society.

The Begawan tried to educate the Haunted Beads with good ethics and religious knowledge that he believed in. He is very strict and disciplined in giving lessons to his son.

In front of his father the Haunted Beads were as if obedient children. But it's really strange outside that he doesn't turn out to be the case, he likes to make friends with teenage children who like to gamble.

As a result, he also likes cockfighting gambling and playing dice. Because the property of both parents is quite a lot, it is not difficult for the Haunted Bead to ask his mother for money rations every day.

And every day he is not tired of playing gambling, he has been warned by his father and mother but does not want to stop his ugly habit.

After a long time, the Begawan's property was drained. this certainly saddens the mother's heart.

His parents' property ran out still did not make the Haunted Bead kapok he continued to play gambling by indebtedness to the bookies.

Until one day because the debt was so much the Haunted Bead disappeared out of nowhere, he did not dare to return home. One day, there were two bookies who came to face Begawan Sidi Mantra to collect the Haunted Bead money. Of course the Begawan became embarrassed. But because Manik Haunted his only child, he is willing to pay his debts.

"Well tomorrow I pay off my son's debt," said the Begawan.

Begawan Sidi Mantra remembered his best friend who lived on the slopes of Mount Agung to the east. His friend had abundant treasures. Then departed Begawan Sidi Mantra to the east with his worship.

"I hope that hopefully after the debt will be paid off the Haunted Beads will soon come to their senses and don't want to play gambling anymore." whispered the begawan Sidi Mantra.

After arriving at the slopes of Mount AGung, Begawan Sidi Mantra began to cast spells while sounding his genta. Soon, a huge dragon named Besukih Dragon came out.

"Hi, Begawan Sidi Mantra, what do you mean by calling me?" the dragon scolded.

"Know the Besukih, my wealth was spent by my son on gambling. Now his debts are piled up and chased by the person he owes. Help me so that I can repay my son's debt!"

"Alright Begawan Sidi Mantra. But advise your son to stop gambling. Because according to religious teachings gambling is a nasty job."

Begawan Sidi Mantra agrees to carry out all the advice of Naga Besukih. With shaking his body came out gold and diamonds from the scales of the Dragon Besukih.

"Begawan Sidi Mantra! Pay all your son's debts. Remember, don't let him gamble anymore."

After collecting all the gold and diamonds given by Naga Besukih, Begawan Sidi Mantra returned to East Java. All his son's debts were paid, while advising that his son no longer gamble.

However, his father's advice was ignored by the Haunted Bead. Before long, the debt of the Haunted Bead piled up again. As usual, if the debt has accumulated a lot, the Haunted Beads dare not return home. It hides somewhere.

Again the bookies came to Begawan Sidi Mantra's house to collect the debts of the Haunted Bead.

" Rude! so the kid still hasn't played gambling...!" sighed the Begawan.

" I was forced to ask my best friend Naga Besukih for help again."

Although Begawan Sidi Mantra was a bit upset, he finally set off to also face the Dragon Besukih for help. Upon arriving at Mount Agung, Begawan Sidi Mantra casts a spell while sounding his genta. The Dragon besukih came out of his palace.

" Begawan Sidi Mantra, let alone your interests call me?"

" Ouch the Besukih, once again I ask for help so that I can pay my son's debts. I already have nothing. Debt continues to accumulate. All my advice was ignored by him."

" It turns out that your kid has disobeyed. He has no respect for his parents. For this time I will help you. But this help of mine is the last help. After this, it will not help you anymore."

After moving his body, gold and gems came out from the scales of the Dragon Besukih. Begawan Sidi Mantra collected the gold and gems, and begged himself.

Upon arriving at his house, Begawan Sidi Mantra immediately paid off his son's debt receivables. Haunted Beads were astonished at seeing his father easily get abundant treasures.

" Dad, where did dad get that much property?"

"Never mind, Haunted Bead, don't you ask where Dad got the treasure from. Stop gambling, because gambling is a despicable job. If you have any more debts now, Dad won't help you. This is Dad's last help.

Soon the debts of the Haunted Beads were piled up again. To ask his father for help he did not dare. Therefore, he was determined to find the source of the treasure itself. From some of his friends, he got information that Begawan Sidi Mantra got a wealth on a mountain to the east called Mount Agung. Then The Haunted Manik whined, seducing his mother into telling him the secret of his father getting treasures on Mount Agung.

At first the mother objected. She was a faithful wife. There was no way she could dare to betray her husband. But the Haunted Bead almost every day seduce him.

" O mother, it's just this once. When my debts are paid off, I will stop playing gambling and become an obedient child," said Manik Angkeran.

" Really Manik?" his mother asked.

" I swear ma'am, I promise for the honor of father."

The mother was finally affected. She, who had been informed by her husband about the procedure for obtaining property on Mount Agung, immediately told her story without her husband's knowledge.

" But wait a few more days...."

" Ah, mom... people kept chasing around me to collect my debts. So far, I have asked them not to come to this house. But if I don't see them soon, they must be charging here."

" Yes Manik, but we have to wait for your father to travel first. I can't take a magical flinch if your father is still at home."

" Well, so what Mom?"

" Forced to wait..." sighed his mother.

It just so happened that the next day Begawan Sidi Mantra traveled to another village to give a religious lecture. It was at this time that the mother and son came into action. The taking of the magic clapper from the place of heirloom. Then it was given to the Haunted Bead.

" It was with this miraculous trepidation that your father summoned the dragon Besukih to get his golden scales." said the mother

The Haunted Bead also left for the east after carrying his father's genta. Upon arriving at Mount Agung, the Haunted Bead sounded his father's precariousness. Dragon Besukih felt called by the sound. But he was astonished not to hear the spells uttered. The Dragon Besukih appeared immediately. Behold the Haunted Beads came carrying his father's genta. Witnessing this, Dragon Besukih was furious.

" Hi, Haunted Bead, what's the matter you call me with your father's clappery?"

"The Dragon Besukih, I am facing you to beg for help giving away property, so that I can pay my debts. If I don't pay my debt this time, I will be killed by the people I owe. Have mercy on me." said Haunted Bead sadly.

" Why should I help you?" said Naga Besukih.

" Because I'm your best friend's son..."

" But you brazen kid!"

" I.... promised just this once only...!"

" What gambler's promise can be trusted?"

" I swear I won't play gambling anymore!"

" Really?"

" For the sake of heaven and earth, for the sake of Mount Agung!" said the Haunted Bead convincingly.

" I doubt you your vows...!"

" Then... you're not my dad's best friend..."

" I'm still your father's best friend," the Dragon said..

" But why not help me?" said The Haunted Bead.

" Because I'm afraid you will play gambling again..."

"I just want to be helped according to the amount I owe... after paying the debt I will be filial to father and mother. Explore religious knowledge to get closer to Sang Hyang Widhi. But.. if you don't want to help me.. yes never mind..." said the Haunted Bead with deep sadness.

Watching the sadness of the Haunted Bead, Dragon Besukih felt a pity. He also promised to help the Haunted Beads.

After giving a long piece of advice, The Dragon Besukih turned his body to pick up the treasure to be given to the Haunted Bead.

At that time, the tail of the Besukih Dragon was still at ground level, while its head and body entered the earth.

Seeing that the tail of the Besukih Dragon was full of massive diamonds, there arose the evil intentions of the Haunted Bead. He drew his dagger and then cut off the tail of the Besukih Dragon.

Dragon Besukih struggled and turned his body. The Haunted Beads, however, are gone. The Dragon of Besukih pursued the Haunted Bead, but was not encountered. All that was found was the footprint marks. With extraordinary power, the Dragon Besukih sucked the soles of the feet of the Haunted Bead.

Miraculously suddenly the body of the Haunted Bead was in the presence of the Besukih Dragon.

" Brazen child! Self-knowing!" shouted Dragon Besukih angrily with a pair of blazing eyes.

Haunted Bead trembled with fright. Unexpectedly, he, who had run so far away, suddenly sucked up supernatural powers and was in front of the Dragon Besukih.

" Forgive... mercy Dragon....!"

" You can't be forgiven anymore. Must be taught a lesson!"

Then Naga Besukih spouted heat mixed with poison from his mouth towards the body of the Haunted Bead.

The haunted bead's body was thrown a few meters away and instantly his body burned to ashes.

In Blambangan Begawan Sidi Mantra is agitated because her son disappeared. Nor is his worship in place.

The wife immediately told what she had done.

" Ouch woe to my wife! I have to catch up with Manik." said the Begawan

Sang Sidi Mantra can make sure her son goes to Mount Agung to find treasure.

Immediately, set off Begawan Sidi Mantra to Mount Agung. When he got there, he saw that the Besukih Dragon was outside his palace. In a hurry Begawan Sidi Mantra reprimands Naga Besukih.

" O the Besukih is my son The Haunted Bead coming here?"

"Yes, he has come here to ask for property to pay off his debts. When I turned my body to get a treasure, he cut off my tail because I was tempted by the massive diamond diamonds on my tail. I have burned it to the point of being wiped out, because your son has no idea of returning the favor. Now what does your arrival mean Begawan Sidi Mantra.

" I'm sorry the Besukih! My son is only one. Therefore I beg you that my son be revived."

" For what?"

" He is still my son anyway..."

" But he is really brazen!"" I admit I'm teledor, letting her mother spoil her. But now I will educate him earnestly. I'm sure he'll be a good boy."

" You're sure...?"

" So sure... I thought he had learned a lesson in his mistakes. You've punished him. This will deter him. Then bring my son to life again."

" For the sake of our friendship I will fulfill your request, but I ask that my tail be returned to its original state."

" Well, I will fulfill your request."

By exerting their respective inner strengths, the Haunted Bead came to life. Similarly, the tail of the Besukih Dragon is intact as it was.

After giving advice at length to his son, Begawan Sidi Mantra returned to Blambangan, East Java. Haunted Beads are not allowed to participate. He was told to live around Mount Agung. Already aware of his fallacy, the Haunted Bead submits to the orders of his parents.

" Don't never returned again to Blambangan. If you go back there you must have met your fellow gamblers."

" I was already aware of dad, I've really repented now."

" Alright then, dad will return to Blambangan."

Begawan Sidi Mantra walked down the slopes of Mount Agung. His heart still felt anxious lest his son would catch up to Blambangan.

" There must be something blocking him from going to Blambangan." muttered the Begawan.

When Begawan Sidi Mantra arrived at an isthmus, where his staff was thrown to the ground, instantly the marks of the nick grew wider and the sea water rose to inundate him. Then came a strait, which is now called the Bali Strait.
